" From: <mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx> " " Definitely higher than 2.87 (lower numerically) require a different " carrier than 2.87-5.13 in the AMC 20 according to Jeep sites. Note that " factory gears over 4.10 had another carrier. " [] " I know from experience that the 2.87 uses the same carrier. The small " carrier starts at 2.73 (nothing available for the AMC 20 between 2.73 " and 2.87, factory or aftermarket, that I'm aware of) and goes down to a " 2.56 IIRC. I believe that was the highest gear available for the AMC 20. true afaik. " This link will help: http://www.off-road.com/jeep/tech/axle/amc20.html good but doesn't include hummers. " The AMC 15 is a whole 'nother can of worms! It's close to the same as " far as factory gears. I believe the common or "3 series" carrier runs " from 2.56-4.10, with a special carrier for the rather rare 2.53 gears " used a couple years, and another for steeper than 4.10/4.11 -- from the " factory. Aftermarket companies have 4.56 and 4.88 gears that fit the " factory carriers. At least I could find no evidence that another carrier " was needed for aftermarket lower than 4.10 gears. iirc there was never a 2.56 for the amc15. for tall gears there were not only the 2.53, but also 2.37, 2.35, and 2.21. the 2.37 had its own housing as well as carrier. then there's the dana 35, the amc15's reincarnation... and according to http://jeephorizons.com/tech/pdf/dana_light_axle_manual.pdf pp3 there's even a 'super 35'! hmmm - the new model designations look a lot like ring gear diameters in mm. ________________________________________________________________________ Andrew Hay the genius nature internet rambler is to see what all have seen adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and think what none thought
