Stay tuned, in about six weeks I'll hopefully get the facts about this from someone who knows them like noone else, and if I'm lucky I'll be able to gather other interesting tidbits as well. I think it is in the headlight switch. I had the whole interior apart and checked all the wiring and door jam switches and found nothing wrong. I installed the new interior and left the fuel gauge and courtesy light problem for this coming spring. I just noticed the other day for the first time I have driven this car at night since I bought it 2 1/2 years ago that when I tried to adjust the strength of the inst. lights they wont dim or brighten so I believe the switch is bad. My question is before I pull the dash apart to install another switch is will a switch from an 82 Spirit work? The Spirit had the high beam switch on the steering column if that makes any difference. Also on the gas gauge problem will a gauge out of Gremlin work? What year did they change the ohm rating on the fuel gauges? It is embarrassing to have such a nice looking car that I have to check the fuel with a 36 inch 3/8 wooden dowel. :-( These 2 items are the last 2 things I need to finish my interior job. I am psyched as today the windows get tinted a light smoke color. It should even make the orange body color stand out more. I gave up on the subtle look. Shaft rockers from 64-72, bridged for 73 and very early 74, back to shaft for 74 (due to a patent dispute with Buick over the bridged design), then back to bridged in 1975-2006. It's possible that some early 75 production would have shaft rockers, but I'm willing to risk saying 80%+ had bridged. It's my understanding that no 2007 models will have the 4.0L, 2006 will be the last year of production. It's only used in the Wrangler now, but it's stock in all but the SE model, so I'm not so sure 06 will be the last year. They'd be wise to keep the 4.0L in the Wrangler, and make a four door and pickup version as well. That would give Chrysler a rugged fleet/trail vehicle cheap. The problem is there aren't any large number of sales for fleet vehicles like that, and a four door could take away Liberty sales. I really don't think so, as long as they kept it a little on the rugged side. Yuppies and soccer moms buy Liberties, and I don't think they'd be interested in something a bit less comfortable at any price. Heck, instead of dressing it up, they should offer stripped down models. Might make it more attractive to buy for trails instead of building an older model Cherokee, at least for light trail running. Car did run 7 years ago. Rust in rear unibody frame, otherwise was a nice car. I think one rear quarter had some creasing, don't remember. Make a nice street rod project. Car should be complete. Can't guarantee there are no bullet holes in it, hunters have used some cars down there for target practice, I think this one is free of extra holes, though. Again, time is critical, I have no control over when they all have to be gone. Also, I am not sure where the title is, I'll ask my club prez, he said it was ok to deal on this car. Maybe he knows. I'll post that info when I find out. Jerry in Virginia, '62 car in Nottoway County / Burkeville, VA __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! They are all spade terminals, so if you cna't get the 82 connector it won't be a problem to crimp or solder terminals to the wires in your car. The fuel gauge changed around 77 or 78, so that won't work. Are you sure it's the gauge and not the sender or wire? Pull the wire from near the tank and ground it. The gauge should go to above full. If it does, the gauge and wire (at least from the point you grounded forward) is good. If it goes up but not all the way to full, you have a bad voltage regulator. The regulator is made into the fuel gauge on the small cars, so the gauge has to be replaced. The alternative is to pull the cluster and do some surgery on the gauge. Once the gague is out and apart you can see the old "vibrator" voltage regulator. You can cut that out or just connect a wire running out of the gauge to the gauge side of the old regulator, by passing it. Then use a solid state regulator like this: http://www.wps.com/AMC/dashreg/index.html. Connections will be different, and you may have to cut a trace on the circuit board leading into the fuel gauge, but it will work much better. If the temp and gas gauge are reading low the regulator is usually the culprit. Be careful cutting traces -- the temp gauge gets its power from that same regulator. The brake adjuster "cable" is a pair of rods hooked to a bolt screwed into the primary shoe. Of course, the NAPA replacement shoes don't have the threaded hole for that mess and the springs that return the shoes to "rest" at the top of the shoes actually hook onto a small tab sticking out of the shoes, not into a hole in the shoe frame. The retainer pins are held on by some spring steel square clips. That is not a problem, or doesn't seem to be. Has anyone solved this problem before and willing to tell me what I need to do? The car is all torn down, the drums turned, wheel bearings all replaced and packed with grease. I haven't looked at the rear wheel brakes yet, but I assume I will run into the same situation.
