studebaker the industrial giant survived, in name at least, as
studebaker-worthington, and made among other things locomotive
diesels. i believe ge now owns that part.
What was Studebaker left the car market in 66. Merged with Worthington and
is now Studebaker-Worthington, a company who lends money for office
equipment purchases.
November 1967 it merged with the Worthington Corporation to form the
Studebaker-Worthington Corporation. In the fall 1979, the
Studebaker-Worthington Corporation was absorbed by the McGraw-Edison
Company. In April 1985, the McGraw-Edison Company was acquired by Cooper
Industries of Houston, Texas.
I talked to them a few year ago and was told that Studebaker-Worthington
Leasing (www.studebaker.com) was bought up a few years ago by an east coast
bank (Boston Bank?) and is now a subsidiary.
