Re: AMC engines with Studebaker influences????

As I recall, my Uncle Herman's 55 Hudson Hollywood 2 door Hardtop
Convertible with a continental kit was powered by a Packard V-8 (for some
reason I think it was a 327 CI engine) and their very slushy "Ultramatic
Transmission". He was the Hudson dealer in Linton, ND at the time. I
worked for him one summer between school years.

As I understand the following year was first for the AMC gen-1 V8's which I
thoght was patterned after that Packard V8.

Studebaker had their own V8 engines from about 1951 and, of course through
1955 and later. I'm quite sure they were smaller displacement than this 327
CI. My favorite car back then was a friends 1955 Stude Preseident 2 door
coupe with white leather upholstery. Really classy. My younger brother had
a 1953 coupe with V8 which as a slick looking car, also.

Then also a friend of mine was adamantly telling me that Continental Engines
manufactured the 6 cyl engines for the Ramblers of the 1960's. Told me I
was lying when I told him he was wrong about that... I suppose he later
checked it out but me never mentioned it since... Takes all kinds, I guess.

design?
