I thought it a FAIR article, but it's not something that the average motorhead is going to build, or even be able to. I recall some guys talking about using Chevy rods and leaving the extra clearance, I think, with no problems. But grinding the casting seam down and shot peening the AMC rods will be more than enough for most engines, good for 400-450 hp at least (maybe 500), as long as the engine is built to max out around 6K tops. The offset grinding and welded Chevy rods are a bit on the extreme in my book. But that's how you build a $7K engine.
