" I am trying to locate what tire options are available for my 1967 Rebel
" SST convertible. I have been searching the Internet for several weeks
" and have not been able to locate a source that lists the size options
" for this car. It is nearing completion on the restoration so it is time
" to select the tires and rims. I want to go "old school" and large in
" the back and smaller in the front but no source I find lists the factory
" sizings or limitations
"
" Can you help???

TIRE SIZE RPM
7.35x14 796
7.35x14 783
7.75x14 770
7.75x15 762
8.25x14 750
you can find radial equivalents via conversion tables on the net or
just match diameters using the rpm, but be warned radials like wider
rims than bias-ply tires. oddly, in all the tsm i couldn't find any
chart of wheel sizes but at a guess they'd be 5" and/or 5.5" wide.
iirc there were no 6" until '69/'70.
if you're running dogdish hubcaps, 14x6" are common on '70s-'80s amcs;
15x6" were used but rare on early-'70s wagons. some high performance
'60 +/- mopars had 14x6.5" which -i-believe- would take amc dogdishes.
if you're running full wheelcovers there's a nice common '80s mopar
15x7 steelie. or you could run mopar hubcaps.
my '66 and '68 americans need a thin ~1/8" spacer on the front to take
14x6 with 205/70r without rubbing. the 15x7s would need something
too, but if you're not into strict restoration you should upgrade the
front to late-model amc disk brakes. my '65 project american with '76
disks clears 15x7s like they were made for the car.
