CARB and all related organizations/laws are EVIL!
("GASP!" you say)
They create monopolies.
("WHAT!? There's MANY car choices out there!" you say)
Nope, wrong. Emission regulations, MPG regulations and safety regulations
has effectively killed small American Auto manufacturers AND prevented new
ones from starting up. There are so many requirements for new cars
nowadays that no small company can even attempt to compete! All the new
car manufacturers in the US market are either:
1) subsidiaries of bigger/established car companies...
-or-
2) foreign car companies who have been able to build up their business
elsewhere in the world to finally be able to afford the technology to meet
the US regulations.
There are no new US car companies and will be none as long as the business
is strangled by all the regulations. Please note that I am talking about
everyday, Joe Bleau cars, not exotic $60K+ speciality cars (who's companies
routinely go out of business).
The US motorcycle market is being flooded with plenty of small
manufacturers because the motorcycle markets are not being strangled with
regulations.
Now, I realized that the emission and safety standards are generally a good
thing but, the laws should be written to promote small startups! To
correct this, laws should be written with trigger points... A manufacturer
that produces less than X cars should be exempt from all regulations. when
a manufacturer makes X+n vehicles, their vehicles should pass the first
level of regulations and so on.
ALL foreign manufacturers should be held to the same regulations as the Big
Two (Chrysler is now foreign)
AMC content: One of the nails in AMC's coffin was the cost of meeting the
increased regulations!
