1982 Spirit GT. We pulled a 1981 258 engine auto trans. 150 lbs across the board. Ran real nice. We changed the timing chain and oil pan /vlave cover gaskets. Same with the intake exhaust and waterpump gaskets. I installed an SR4 4spd with new clutch disc and origional pressure plate and throw out bearing from the 82 GT . ( The car will be V8'd next spring.) Everything is swapping over and installing nicely until I get to the Clutch rod adjuster. I had to install a 2" longer adjustment rod. I started the car and drove for a couple of clicks. No problems except for a heating problem and loose exhaust. The next day there is a noise at the front of the engine with the car in neutral. Sounds like it is around the frontend of the crank. If I push the clutch pedal very slightly the noise goes away. Maybe 1/4". I remove the slight pressure on the clutch pedal the noise returns. The noise speeds up with higher rpms. I adjusted the clutch pedal stop under the dash to apply very slight pressure on the throw out bearing. This is incorrect as I would think the clutch has a chance to slip now. What Gets me is the noise is at the front of the engine. Could the sound be travelling through the crank from the through out bearing. The noise sounds like a mettallic hit. Any Ideas on this. The car appears to run and drive with no problems. I am at a loss.
