I agree with John whole heartedly.  As the saying goes: It's far better to
let people "think" you are dumb, than to speak and "remove any doubt"!  I
may be dumber than a pail of hammers, but I sure don't want to "project"
that image out in front of me.

Mark, I dropped out of high school, my grades were ummmm.... Poor at
best. Despite that I also find it's abhorrent to go through life looking
stupid or accepting inequities I can do something about. If I prejudge
someone due to their language skills then shame on me, but I cannot help
but feel it's a telling character trait. 

Please forgive me anyone if I offended you that was certainly not my
intent.

Seems to me if you all judge people by their language skills your
shortchanging a lot of people. I guess maybe you think you are better
than they are just because you earned good grades in school?
