am looking at a 66 rambler classic, 770 convertible 287/auto, 170K. besides rust holdes, heater core bad, guages not working/bypassed with stewart guages, crack/leak in exhaust manifold, the car had manual drums, and I am told that someone added the power booster. then a new owner they put on a new booster, but they still don't feel like their is any boost. not much foot travel, and they tend to go to the floor, though not spongey. they Just don't have a good stop to them, feels like you need 3 more inches of travel. when a conversion is made, what is needed to be done- are the rods different length, any other changes to proportioning valves, etc. This is all new to me- but it seems I recall someone mentioning that and wonder if that rod is the problem, or it wasn't chanbged to the PB one, or not adjusted in length if that is possible- or if power drums are like that. I recall my grandads 66 american with manual brakes and they stopped with a good amount of effort but they f!
elt secure. these don't. anyone have any ideas? I am looking at perhaps buying this car and wondering how many issues I might have, and the time and cost factor. also it seems like parts for this are difficult to find, esp rear drums and hoses and cables. Is this the year that disc's from 80's and up concord can be easily retrofitted, but the rears seems to be an issue. since its a v-8, I assume they are the 10 inch drums all around. but the front drum parts seem not a major problem. If anyone has any ideas or comments about the above, or anything else I need to be aware off on a 66- trunion/front end stuff and availablilty, or info on the torque tube thing, rust repair on a convertible versus a regular sedan, etc. please let me know . off list is ok as well. or I could call you as well if thats easier. regards, and hope everyone is having a safe weekend.thanks. Ken.
