The 4.0 puts out nearly the same torque as a 360 -- it loses about 10 lb/ft, but comes in at a lower rpm. That's compared to a 74 360 4V model. The AMC six is still a heavy engine! What little you gain in weight savings (30-50 lbs), you lose because it's moved further forward (longer engine). So the weight balance is close to the same with the 4.0L and V-8.
