similar but not identical.  note the single centered top hole on the
bell but two symmetrical top bolts on the engine.  there are some
similarities though, almost as if that was an adapter ring on the back
of the block.

i believe this is a mercedes engine [om612?], in large scale production
in germany.  iirc it's a 5-cyl, sibling to the 6 in the mercedes 320.
