Frank's correct, there never was a 2 speed BW in an AMC but if you go back a few years, the early cast iron BW 8's only had D and L. Back to the 65 American, the 67 trans is not a direct bolt in. It would have had a cable for the throttle valve where the 67 would have a vacuum modulator and electric kickdown.
Yeah, but. It's easier to put the 67 trans in a 65 car than vice versa -- just supply manifold vacuum to the vacuum modulator.
You can even skip the kickdown switch in a pinch, though it's nice to have. It's a funny momentary switch that lives on a bracket pressed by the throttle. Don't use a on/off toggle switch. A momentary pushbutton on the dash will do.
The cable adjustment on the older jobs is fairly important to get right, but vacuum modulator is just a hose.
