A month ago I wrote how I had an oil pressure (idiot light) switch fail as I pulled into the fast lane of the highway. Panic time! I thought I had lost oil pressure, but it was just the switch failing.
Bought a new switch (NAPA Echlin OP6626) and all's well -- until this morning! 3 - 4 weeks later! Damn switch dies (short to ground).
Luckily, I installed a mechanical oil pump on the firewall at the same time, and presure is 100% normal, the switch failed again.
This is on top of two failures of other, one-wire Echlin switches installed in the brake master cylinder (stop light switch) of my Rambler. In the last 3 - 4 years I had as many fail.
I fixed the Rambler by buying Ron Francis Wiring's $20 switch. I guess I'll have to do the same for the Hornet now. Expensive, but it claims to be better made, so far so good.
