The noise in the bottom end sounds like the situation with my 196 in the 62 Classic wagon. There is a slight outward protrusion on the oil pan that has been brazed in the past and you can feel something tapping on the pan when the engine is running. That project car has been put aside for now, but I would appreciate knowing what the problem is with your car. BTW, my $75 bottom end (not the one in the wagon) is still available.
