If this is an air cooled trans DO NOT run without that cover long! The cover is required for proper air flow. Some unknowing people (even me, long ago!) remove the cover thinking the converter will cool better. It messes up the airflow and the "fan" on the converter won't work right anymore though! There is an indentation going out from the bell toward the engine adjacent to the large hole in the right side of the bell. IIRC it;s about 1.5" wide, 3" long (lengthwise with the hole in bell) and maybet 1/2" deep. I don't know if it was there for air flow purposes or what, it isn't needed for clearance unless it was there so you could get a wrench through the hole in the bell on the converter bolt without removing the cover. That doesn't make a lot of sense because the cover is easy to remove and get out of the way though. I'm sure a flat cover would work better then no cover. All models may not have the mysterious indentation -- might just be an early model thing. I know there !
isn't room to get to a bolt through the side hole on 64+ models as the trans sits higher in the tunnel than 63 American and 62 and earlier Classic/Rebel/Ambo models.
