I went on the advanceautoparts.com site as it's a good tool for looking up what fits what. I plugged in '80 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and came up with some 25 alternators, from $29.88 to almost $200, in ranges of 63 to 100 amps. Various part #'s, but most have a base number of 7127 or 7132. When you click on a particular alternator, there's a link called "buyers guide" that will tell you all this will fit on. Many had no data. I saw that Autolite manufactures Delco-type alternators, and when I clicked on it's buyers guide, it came up with many makes and models, including AMC. For AMC, all the engines were either 151 - 232 - 258 sizes, but the individual car list was: 1975 Gremlin-Hornet-Matador-Pacer 1980 AMX-Concord-Eagle-Pacer-Spirit Interesting to note that it's only these two years 5 apart, and they only put them on 4 and 6 cyl engines. I guess that's not a definitive list, but sure seems like a basic guide for the junkyard. I did crawl under the Rebel last night, and everything looks pretty straight-forward on the mount. I'll know more when I get it out, but I most likely won't have time for that until next week sometime after work, or next weekend. The way I'm reading the electrical hook up is 3 wires: Main post goes to battery +, terminal 1 spade goes to idiot light, and terminal 2 goes to + post as well. Shouldn't the + post hookups be switched? Either through the ignition, or via a relay that's switched by the ignition? (I'd think the latter).
