A: Your original regulator is points type? Then likely one of the wires
between the regulator and alt are broken (whichever one is the battery
voltage) Had this happen on almost every Ford I've owned and many that had
charging system trouble (it was one of the 2 middle wires of the flat 4 that
always broke off) The electronic ones pop within minutes (sometimes seconds)
when wired that way (or never even kick in), but the points type overcharge
because they think battery voltage is too low.

a word of warning - i'm trying to troubleshoot a charging issue on my
'68 american [55a moto alt], and i'm on my 3rd napa regulator. #2
worked briefly then went silent. #1 and #3 never did anything.
my original reg overcharges at 18v.

as noted, there's a 55a moto that uses the same case and reg as your
35; it was hd optional.
if you still go ahead with the delco alt, could you send me your old
moto reg? i may have fixed my problem by then... or may not, and a
known-good part would be a help.
