" " " Frank, " If you thought Loudon was awesome you absolutely need to see the June " Sprints at Road America, Elkhart lake, WI. The Formula Atlantics " literally come flying up to turn five at 160 to 170 mph, they start " braking well past the 2 marker, the cars have about the best brakes " you've ever seen short of Formula One or Champ cars, and the sound from " those double overhead cam 4 valve per cylinder engines is just " fantastic. The V-8 powered GT-1 cars are so cool to watch that my spine " tingles. Those guys driving these SCCA race cars are having so much fun " you could see the smiles on their faces right through their full face " helmets. elkhart lake would be a pretty long haul for me, whereas loudon is an easy day trip... the gt-1 mustangs -were- the loudest cars there, and with nascar-style exhausts gave us an excellent audition as they turned up the hill. but there was something about the 'aaawwwoooooo' the f440s let out that was eerie. mere speed doesn't automatically excite me [at least as a spectator!]; fv and srf were the most interesting to watch. you're 100% right about the grins. and as frank said, mid pack was often better action than the pointy end of the field. " AMC content....... " " At one SCCA event I attended at Road America I saw a 70 Javelin Trans AM " clone, never did get a chance to talk to the owner. Never saw the car " again either. no amcs at all at loudon, even the vintage heat. i found myself wondering how a race-prepped american would do... ________________________________________________________________________ Andrew Hay the genius nature internet rambler is to see what all have seen adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and think what none thought
