Yeah, Yeah, Rub it in already! Uh, if your building a 400 horse motor won't you need to sell the T-5 to me to get a stronger trans????? :] Mark Price mprice@xxxxxxxxxx Morgantown, WV 69 AMC rambler, 4.0L, EFI, 5 speed 65 Ambassador Conv, 327 AUTO, Basketcase 01 S-10 CREWCRAP 4X4 ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: fljab@xxxxxxxxxxx Reply-To: mail-From-mprice-westco.net@xxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Tue, 10 May 2005 09:38:02 -0400 >On May 9, 2005 andrew hay wrote: > > >> for a 290/304, the ford 5.0 t5 is a fairly trivial adaptation. but >> even the svt t5 is only rated 330 ft-lbs, so it's a little iffy behind >> a 343 or 360 especially in a heavier car. not impossible with a >> little care though. > >I've been running a SVO T5 behind my '70 390 in an American for a couple of yrs now with no problems. Admittedly, I don't race with it, just normal driving with occasional burn-outs. These T5's are used by the 5.0 crowd and last quite well for racing and most applications in all but the most brutal set-ups. You do need to know which one you get tho as they made many, many different models of this transmission over the yrs with all different strength levels. > >It would be nice to go to a Tremec in the 390 car, but I came up with this entire setup, bellhousing to driveshaft, for $1000 with the SVO trans that had been bought directly from Ford Motorsports and had 7000 miles on it. It was behind a 304 Spirit before I bought it. > >Jim Boone >Mims, FL > > >============================================================= >Posted by wixList Archiver -- http://www.amxfiles.com/wixlist > > > > > >
