I'm assuming you meant "they breathe much better than sixes at higher rpms". The only problem with an American/199/OD/3.08 axle is you have limited use of OD. Good for level crusing only! Would be a fair amount of shifting in and out of OD. Not to bad except in hilly/mountain country. Then it would be plain irritating!
