I got my Wipers figured out this weekend!!! Yeah! It won?t help many people. I used an American electric wiper motor mounting plate, vacuum wiper transmission and motor arm. For an actual motor I used a 1984 Jeep XJ motor. Switch is 1973 Hornet. The XJ motor has the same bolt spread and pattern as the American electric mount plate. The main problem is it is taller then an American motor and hood clearance is an issue. Plus the Arm needs to be bent into an S shape to move it away from the mounting plate. This causes two problems, One, it shortens the arm and causes the sweep to be too short. Two, the mentioned hood clearance issue. The solution; Grind the reinforcement webs in between the mounting bosses to allow the mounting bosses of the motor to go farther through the original rubber bushings. You need a ¼? on the two webs opposite the actual motor and 3/8? on the side closest the motor. This tilts the motor slightly to allow a better angle of the linkage towards the drivers side wiper pivot. You will need to use washers over the bosses on both sides of the rubber bushing to allow things to be tightened up. I had to put one slight dent in the mount plate, no easy task it is heavy! I ground a little from a bit of the motor flange to help clearance too. The wiper arm from the Vacuum motor I used a dremel to remove it. I then cut a new double D slot in it in line with the arms length till it fit the motor. Bent the arm about ¼? in out away from the motor in an S fashion, just enough to clear the mount plate and cowl of the car. This all worked out to give me as close to original sweep as I could possibly hope for! The motor and underhood install is complete. I have it wired and working. I still need to install the switch. I?m also planning on adding the electric washer tank and motor from the Hornet. The only thing that I may try yet is to open the double D up just a hair to allow the Motor to advance a bit ahead of the transmission. Right now it parks about 3/8? to ½? past the farthest part of its down sweep. It is so close to the bottom I may not bother, but the anal retentive part of me really wants it to be perfect! Next phase is wiring up the turn signal switch in the Hornet Column. Then, a manual switch for the electric cooling fan. Followed by getting the AIR intake on the throttle body. I also need to align the front end. Which I intend to do myself! That is all I need to do to be able to drive it!!!!
