Frank You are saying this engine used a tube type exhaust manifold, NOT cast iron??? IF yes, then NO, not on the two or three I have seen and the one owned buy a guy in Dallas that has been looking for two years now for one. All I have seen are cast iron. What happens is just like what use to happen to the 4 cyl imports that had a cast iron chamber below the exhaust manifold. This was like a pre-cat filled with some ceramic honey comb. This would get clogged up and cause excessive heat to build up ( the engine would stop running from too much back pressure). The top side of the exhaust would start to show singes of what looked like a very bad rusting problem. It would start to bulge and get deep expansive cracking. The cast iron just falls apart. The Audi 2L does this right in the middle of the manifold. I looked at the design of the manifold, and thought how easy it looked to make a tube type exhaust manifold for it, but........ Anyway, if you know if source that have a tube type, pass it on. there are a few folks out there that need them. I have repaired many 4L Jeep tube type ones myself. Andre " A.J."
