Re: Jeep trans adapters

All this guy did was make a cover for the front of the OD adapter (the roughly 1.25" thick piece that holds the solenoid) and adapted a shaft to fit into the OD drive. IIRC the front of the od is splined to accept the output shaft of the trans. This is the only difference between OD models -- the adapter and input splines. I'm not 100% certain the input splines are different -- BW could have had one size and the manufacturer sized/splined their outputs to fit. If the splines match your output shaft the last 2-3" of the tailshaft housing could be cut off and a flat plate welded on to mate to the OD unit. Would have to be perfectly perpendicular to the housing though! I don't know how the coupling was made by this guy. Cut the output of the old trans off and weld to the slip coupling of a driveshaft is all that's needed.

I won't even have to find any two wheel drive parts to put on the 4X4 version I have! I will also keep my eyes open for an overdrive trans, just to have in case I ever decide to get creative too!!!
