Just a couple of comments to add to what Tom J. said.

In the 62 Classic with the 196 engine you can reach the bellhousing bolts
from above using an offset wrench.  It's a bit of a reach for me (6 feet
with short arms) so you may have to stand on something to do it.

An aftermarket rubber trunnion bushing is now available for the rear of the
transmission, according to an ad I saw in the AMCRC classifieds recently.
