Re: Found Eagle Kammback

My thoughts exactly Frank. I can't see it being worth more than that. The interior is actually quite decent with some small wear splits in the cloth inserts of the driver's seat back. If the fabric could be located it would be an easy repair.

I'm going to see if I can locate the owner and find out if it's even for sale. My guess is that it has been there for 20 years because he wants it for some reason or other.

A couple of miles from my house, there is a house in a classy neighborhood which has a car sitting on the driveway in front. The car has been there - to my knowledge - for nearly 40 years. It is a '59 Mercury 4D HT. For years it sat without a cover, then 10 years ago it was covered - but nothing else has changed.

Obsession? Passion? Who knows.

Sounds to me like it's worth no more than $500 UNLESS the interior is in pristine condition (not likely!). The Kammback is the least seen Eagle body style, and the SX/4 (Spirit based Eagle) was only made three years. It is seen as a "future collectable" by Hemmings, but they really referring to the sporty looking hatch snip:

Hello everyone:

I've found an Eagle Kammback sitting behind a house at the side of
the driveway. It has four flat tires and, according to a neighbor,
has been sitting for about 20 years but that it was driven in and
parked. The car is not in bad shape - weathered but not rusted or
dented. By decoding the ID number, I've determined that it is an
'81, four cylinder, 4 x 4 with automatic, DL model. It is quite
complete except for the hood badge which someone appears to have
 pulled off.

Is this worth pursuing and what's it worth (realistically, given the
amount of work probably necessary to get it back on the road).
