Re: Found Eagle Kammback

Hi Jerry:

I've been a collector and restorer for more than 40 years and I've never gone "mainstream". I prefer the "path less well trod". The Kammback is exactly the kind of thing which appeals to me. I rarely buy any car with a view to flipping it for a profit and I never buy a car that does not attract me for good reasons.

In 1980, a good friend of mine was an AMC dealer. He lent me a new Eagle for a weekend, during the winter I thought it was a fantastic car and have never forgotten its flexibility and tremendous traction under the demanding situations I drove it into - including snow so deep that it piled up on the hood. I've always thought that I'd like to own one and wish that I had bought one then - but I couldn't afford a new vehicle at the time.

Thanks for your observations and I'll re-phrase my question.

I was trying to get an idea of what might be a fair offer for a car of the sort and condition I described. I have no idea if the car is even for sale and given the fact that it has sat where it is for so long, it may not be. However, if the owner is uncertain, I'd like to approach him with a solid range of values as determined by a group of people who know the subject.

John

John, it's not an AMX, a BB Javelin, a Machine, a SC/Rambler, or any kind of AMC convertible...so the only EXTERNAL reason is what is it worth to YOU? If you base your purchase on " what can I get for it if I don't want it later", pass. If you really like the car, and it's in nice shape otherwise, pursue it. I NEVER decide on purchasing a car as to it's resale value. Some people do. Those that do, won't buy a Concord 4-door, a Hornet wagon, or even a Gremlin, as snip:
