Re: Not all T5s are created Equal, The right ones Are...............

Mark, I think if you go to the FordMuscle car site.............. (Thanks to Craig for the site info) -

http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2002/09/transmissions/index.shtml

We can all get a little more confused here, ever one has an opinion on the T-5s. I do see that even this site points to a HD T-5 (HD WC?) is used in the V-8s from 1983 and up, and the light duty T-5 (Light Duty NWC?) was used in 4-6 cylinder cars. I will not comment on GM as I have been reviewing the Ford info today. They do comment that 83 to 89s were rated at 265 lb.ft of torque, and the 90 to 93 were rated to 300 lb.ft of torque(93 Mustang Cobras got 310 lb.ft). They do comment that the 1994s and latter T-5s are not desirable for older swaps because the input shaft length is longer and bell-housing were longer due to changes to the SN95 Mustangs body style.

Now after saying all that I have a T-5 Identification Chart that states the B/W ID 1352-115 79-83 Mustang 5.0 T-5 was rated at 305 lb.ft? with the gears 1,2,3,4,5 = 2.95;1.94;1.34;1.00;0.63; input shaft length 7.18

Joe,
83-84 Mustang V-8 T-5= NON world Class.
82-87 Camaro V-8= NON world Class.
85 began World Class T-5 in Mustang V-8
88 began World Class T-5 in Camaro V-8
The clusters and 1-2&3rd gears from Camaro Non world class should be the same as the AMC in interchange, The only way to find out for sure is to get my hands on one! I know Camaro uses the wrong input, but the rebuild kits are the same for most all Non World Class trans, I've checked the parts books.
With A 84-85 Mustang V-8 Trans I can even use the input shaft if needed, different pilot bearing I think.
My American Runs a 91 Wrangler EFI system on a 95 4.0L engine. i'm not concerend about the non world class status. I believe that if you do a quick web search you will see that indeed the torque rating of World Class transmissions remained at 265 till 1990.
