" From: <mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx> " " So, I've been thinking about my t-5 in my American again. the 4-1 " first gear leaves me desiring a little better gearing. I'm thinking " of trying to build a hybrid trans and wondering if there is anyone " on the list that knows T-5 interchanges. i've read what i can find... " I'm thinking of picking up a 82-87 F-body T-5 and swapping the " gearset into my 83 AMC t-5. This would give me the 2.95 first gear " I desire. My question is, Will it work? I think I would need to use " the AMC input and output shafts. I think I would also want to use " the AMC 5th gear. yes and no. it will go together - and 5th is 0.73, more reasonable than 'stang 5.0 - but nix on the gm input. i believe it'll end up too short. good news - afaik you can use a 5.0 input. near as i can tell, all 2.95-3.35 t5s have the same input drive gear. not -absolutely- sure on that. you'd need pilot bushing and clutch disk, and maybe throwout bearing for a late-'70s t150 3sp. disk could be for most any ford, 1 1/16" x 10 spline. no guarantees, but i wouldn't be surprised if the amc t5 turned out to be the same length as a ford... the t150 and sr4 were both ford trannies straight out. " What I can find on the net leaves me to believe it will work, but " does anyone know? " I don't care that it would still leave me with a Non World Class " trans. No big deal to me. I can even find f-body transmissions. " Theres one on Ebay right now I can pick up for $175 plus shipping " that looks like it would be fine. It's opened up with lots of good " pics and I'd put new brass and bearings in it while I was at it. as of '87 iirc, gm did finally get wc tech. i haven't heard/read anything specific about mixing/not mixing wc and non-wc parts. ________________________________________________________________________ Andrew Hay the genius nature internet rambler is to see what all have seen adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and think what none thought
