the prestolite ign used a low voltage trigger signal that was very
sensitive to connector corrosion, and contact grease wasn't widely
known or used back then.

the recommended fix was to splice the connector out of the wires.
these days, contact cleaner and grease would probably do.  or you
could put a '78-up duraspark setup in, with a 'tfi tuneup' [srch the
web].
