A: Sounds to me like a bad ground wire between the block and frame. 
Regulator needs a good ground connection to the battery to function 
properly. While running, take a jumper cable from the battery - and touch 
the voltage regulator casing and see if the lights get brighter.

Hope you can help,

I own a 68 AMX 290, when I put on the headlights the system starts to 
discharge
and kill the battery. We changed the alternator, voltage regulator, high-low
floor switch, headlight switch. The car is fine as long as you keep the
headlights off. The wiring to the headlights seems fine also. Anywhere else 
we
can look?


Confused.......
