Dana Corp is an independent manufacturer of automotive components, traded on the NYSE under ticker symbol DCN. They have a home page at <http://www.dana.com>. The company was founded (as C.W. Spicer) in 1904 by Clarence Spicer, inventor of the universal joint bearing his name. Charles Dana joined the company in 1914. The company is not now, nor has it ever been, a subsidiary of an auto manufacturer. >This is the case with AMC. They bought the rights to build the Dana >model 15 and model 20 rear ends. AMC may have made others as well, >or bought the other Dana models they used complete, I do know know >on the others. Actually, no. The Dana model 20 is a transfer case. Both of these axles were AMC corporate products, probably built using technology licensed from Dana. Certainly, the limited slip versions were designed by Dana. According to Dana's 100th anniversary book, available in PDF format on their web site, Jeep in the 1980s awarded Dana Corp an exclusive supply contract to produce both driven and non-driven axles. This corresponds with the transition from the AMC 15 axle to the Dana 35 in Jeeps. The D35 has no applications other than Jeep, commencing in 1984, according to US Gear's application chart. It is entirely possible that AMC transferred the Model 15 design to Dana. > >Be aware, Dana has built rear ends knowb as Dana 15, 20, 25,27,30, >35,60,70,&80 models. Is everybody in agreement with this? any personnal experiences to relate? Thanks all, Armand
