Re: 65 Rambler - slips out of park into reverse

Brian,

I'd start with shift linkage adjustment. Here's what my service manual says about adjustment:

With the transmission selector lever in the "1" position pull shift rod against the shifter gate. Push the selector lever forward to remove any "free play" and adjust the clevis for a free pin fit in the transmission outer lever.

Pretty clear, huh?

Looking at the diagrams in the manual, the clevis is the part that attaches to the shift level on the transmission and you just adjust it (it screws in and out on the rod and there's a jamb nut to hold it in place) with the shift lever in the "1" position until the pin that holds the shift rod to the transmission slides in and out easily.

Hello again,

New member and all, i thought Id ask my first question. My new 65 Rambler easily slips out of Park into Reverse when i start it. And to get it into Park requires some oomph.

Does this sound like a problem down at the trans linkage, or do i need to replace the cam in the steering column? Is this a common problem?
