Totally common problem. Linkage likely worn, and column-shifters
get sloppy.

Follow the Technical Service Manual proceedure for adjusting
the linkage, it's easy, and will compensate for linkage wear
right up to where it's about to fall off!

The steering column shifter slop can be fixed, but it's somewhat
