It has always been troublesome to me that AMC made some really fine vehicles, but never got the respect from the “Big 3” they deserved. I recently got a call from the daughter of a friend who passed away a couple of years ago, offering me his ‘67 Rebel SST convertible. I’m very familiar with the car, as I had known her father for several years, and we joked a lot about how he was driving MY Rebel. She really didn’t have a clue what she had. Seems she wanted $17K for it, thinking it was a “rare care in excellent condition with little mileage.” It kind of hurt me to have to tell her the facts of AMC life, but the truth of the matter is that Rebels aren’t very high on t he picking order. Facts are facts. When I told her I have a one of 2400 Typhoon, and bought it for $100, she almost had a bird. Even though I’ve put seven years, and thousands into this restoration, I’m not entering the woods blindly. If I was to consider selling it some day, it’s not going to bring anything to the table. I’m building it because I really love the car. It’s just a shame when someone comes in from the cold, expecting things to be all rosy and warm, then get upset because their AMC isn’t going to bring any profit. It’s just the way it is. I wish he would continue to resurrect them, but do so knowing he’s just restoring history, not a windfall. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
