Re: [AMC-list] AMC value? What is "Non-ripoff"?

What is a "non-ripoff price"?   If your "song" was $800.00, --20 years ago, it was a #3 and it's now a 2, what is "fair"?    Whatever one can "get" for it?   I would keep the engine, but put one either "racier" or more efficient, in it.   As AMC put 360s in them, and 390s & 401s will fit also, I'd consider any of those, but for now, would probably re-engine it with a Turbo-Ford 4 of '86 vintage or later.  This would give better economy, less weight, more acceleration, better braking, handling.  If I kept the 232 in it, I'd put Jeep fuel injection on it.   Although I don't know if the mounts would need moding, a 360 late-model Hemi would be an exotic choice.   Is it a  stinking Borg Warner auto?    If so, and it was mine, it'd have to have at least a T-5 manual, if no engine changes.   If sold "reasonably" what mods later, might prevent the sale, now?   While dependable, AMC 6s were too heavy, imo.  Even a small company like AMC
should have cast alloy 232 blocks.  Later (by the 70s) they should have had twin-cams/4-valves, been cross-flow.  Alloy engines should have had, alloy heads.  At the very least, AMC should have liscenced the IKA-renault "Torino" head which bolted on to the 3.8L, 232 6.   Buying ANYTHING "on the cheap", is part of the "charm" of an AMC.

Would you all care to weigh in on what an ok price for a fair, running, 70
Hornet SST 232 would be?  I'm going to sell my red Hornet this year.  I
don't care about making money on it; I got it for a song.  I just want it
to have a loving home and not get ripped off in the process.
