This kit should fit any AMC 20 rear axle made. no you do not have to remove
the drive shafts (actually I think you mean the axle shafts. But I think the
drum brake backing plate has to come off, and to do that the hub must be
separated from the axle. This is not easy without the proper tools, I saw a
video on youtube where the car backyard engineering removed the hubs. It's
been said that it's possible to remove the hub by reversing the drum and
reinstalling some lug nuts and using the drum like a slide hammer. I'm not
sure but I think it would be possible to cut the drum brake backing plate
into pieces to get it off without removing the hubs, I'm not sure the disc
brake backing plate needs the hubs off to be installed.
If you change your mind about buying the used kit, please let me know as I
would like to purchase it from the guy for use on the white Javelin. or,
I'll have to get a new kit from SSBC.
