I wouldn't worry much about gas on the ground either. It might flare up and burn, but no explosion. It burns out really quick, no real danger of more than singed hair and a minor burn UNLESS the gas is all over you. Even then the gas flares off real easy and quick, but on clothing it starts THAT on fire, which leaves a far nastier burn.
I used to tell my welding class students that I'd stand back and throw matches in a 1/2 full 5 gallon bucket of gasoline all day. It might flare up and burn, but no big deal. But before I did that, I wanted one of them to put one cup of gasoline in the bucket and cover it, leaving just 1 square inch of opening, let it sit for five minutes, then go drop a match in the hole. Luckily a few always realized what the difference was (open bucket of gas vs. bucket full of fumes) and it didn't go far -- not that I would have demonstrated the covered bucket bit anyway... The more gas in a tank the less likely it is to explode. Catch on fire and quickly flare off like in the video, but no explosion.

one thing i was kind of supprised about... fuel tank was leaking, and they did
not want to drain/pull the tank. the guy didnt seem worried about any of the
fuel on the ground that the sparks from the welder could have ignited.
