Hi Jason! I don't think the Eagle would get much better gas mileage than the Olds, if any. Maybe a couple MPG more without a load, but about the same when pulling a load. Eagles are a little on the heavy side -- the six is just right for power, but most people would like a bit more. Size of engine vs. weight of vehicle is a big factor here! The 307 is a bit small for that Olds for towing, but probably like the Eagle for normal driving -- about right (just a bit better than "adequate", but not what most of us would really like!). I have to agree with Jim -- a 4.0L or, at least the 4.0L head and EFI (bolts on with minor mods), would be the best bet in the Eagle. That Eagle seems smaller but weighs about the same as a  late 80s-90s Cherokee, so towing is about the same. A two wheel dolly should be okay, but if you use a trailer make darn sure that trailer has brakes with the Jeep or Eagle. It will work without trailer brakes, but I would only go short distances and keep the spee
 d down to around 50-55 tops. A heavier vehicle will have better brakes due to the weight and handle towing better, but if you have trailer brakes you should be fine. I've towed a trailer with a 66 V-8 Rambler once and a Jeep Commanche another time with a Jeep Cherokee. Both rented trailers had brakes though, and I wouldn't tow anything that heavy any distance or speed without trailer brakes. 

Sounds like you'd be better off with a tow vehicle and the Subby for running around. Of course then you have the added expense of insuring and maintaining two vehicles, so it might be a wash -- what you save on gas you spend on insurance. Consider a 4.0L Jeep Cherokee. More power than the Eagle, decent on mileage as long as it's well maintained and not driven hard. Should average 18-19 delivering pizzas if not in too great a hurry, 22-23 on the highway. An Eagle will probably get 1-2 mpg less and not have as much get-up-and-go or towing power.

My name is Jason and I thinking about getting rid of my 82 olds delta 88 with a 307 for something thats better on gas.
the big thing is i need something to pull my 88 monty carlo stock car that is pretty gutted on a tailer or dolly.
I am wondering if a eagle wagon would have the grunt to pull the monty as good as the delta or not. 
the other thing i am wondering if how are the str 6 on gas cause what i do for a living with pizza delivery sevral times week.
the other choice is if the eagle wont pull my race car then looking at a 95 or 96 subby legarcy with a 4 banger for gas milage.
of course the thought of owning a amc to freak out lots of people who do not know what amc is is just so much fun.
