" From: "J. w." <sacranoidclub@xxxxxxxxx> " " " My name is Jason and I thinking about getting rid of my 82 olds delta " 88 with a 307 for something thats better on gas. the big thing is i " need something to pull my 88 monty carlo stock car that is pretty " gutted on a tailer or dolly. I am wondering if a eagle wagon would " have the grunt to pull the monty as good as the delta or not. the " other thing i am wondering if how are the str 6 on gas cause what i do " for a living with pizza delivery sevral times week. the other choice " is if the eagle wont pull my race car then looking at a 95 or 96 subby " legarcy with a 4 banger for gas milage. of course the thought of " owning a amc to freak out lots of people who do not know what amc is " is just so much fun. on the whole i agree with matt, but it depends a little on how far and how often you tow the monte. in the late '80s i had a cow-orker who towed his big keelboat on a 2-axle trailer with an eagle; he converted its transfer case to 2-spd with wagoneer parts so he could get it up his rather steep driveway, but he was only towing seasonally and not a long distance - no highway mileage. an xj ckerokee with 4.0 and auto, which is much the same size as the eagle, is rated for 5000 lbs with the tow pkg. [also 25' length and 49 sf frontal area] you can put a jeep 4.0 into an eagle pretty easily and that would improve both towing power and mileage measurably, but it wouldn't help the weight factor. that's a big deal for safe trailer handling at highway speeds. a local taxi co with a lot of special-needs-student contracts has dumped all their ex-police crown vics and gone entirely to subarus; my mechanic - who works on them - says they cost half as much to operate. they run them almost 24/7 and rack up over 100k/car per year, but having a fleet they can afford to 'stock up' on wrecks for spare parts. ________________________________________________________________________ Andrew Hay the genius nature internet rambler is to see what all have seen adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and think what none thought _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
