AFAIK, the Laycock J-type was the only overdrive unit used in the
'70s. I have one behind a 150-T in one of my Pacers. It was offered
for two years; 1975/6, after which the T-4 and T-5 transmissions
became available. The 150-T for overdrive has a special output shaft
and an adapter housing to the overdrive unit.
For a Met conversion, I would look around the British car sites for a
gearbox/overdrive combination that fits the Austin engine, since that
is what powered the Met. US products are unlikely to fit without
much work, though the Gear Vendors Over/Underdrive unit is designed
to be mounted behind a non-OD transmission, and is patterned after
the Laycock J-type unit.
