You would need Hornet/Gremlin headers, they will fit. The Jav/AMX has a little more room for clearance. The Edelbrock shorty headers will fit, but you either have to cut the passenger side outlet off, rotate it 90°, then weld it back in place or do a lot of grinding on the passenger side strut rod bracket. The shorties go where a set of full-flow manifolds will, and you have to grind the strut rod bracket for them (cut/rotate/weld isn't really an option on those!).
CAVEAT: I haven't done this, but some of the guys on the AMC Forum have. This topic came up recently (well, putting the shorties in a small body car) and the above solutions were discussed.

Can anyone come up with a part # for headrers (any brand) ?that will fit in a 69 American going on a 401. I contacted Hedmen, and they couldn't recommend any part # due to the fact the application was not listed, They list alot for amx and Javelin, would these be the same...
