Dick Datson Fiberglas'd an entire floor of a rusted Javelin & it passed the opening door when jacked test - . The only thing Fiberglas I'll put on a Street car other than non stressed body panel patches would be a Glass Hood. Steel front fenders are strategic crumple zone items that deflect impacts & pass the energy off to other areas avoiding a direct shot to the firewall via fender well . Trunk floors riding over Fuel Tanks are the only protection against interior conflagration should Fuel Tank take a hit, or puncture or leak and it Explodes. Floorboards are integral crumple zones and floors bear the brunt of stress impact loading & transfer to flex to other areas - keeping spaces open for occupants - sometimes. Floorboards keep failed drive shafts from mix_mastering butt_holes right thru the seat cushion. Floorboards keep rocks or chunks of metal & glass or chunked Semi Tire shards kicked up at speed from piercing thru on their way to the Stars. Floorboards keep guardrails out of your crotch should you skid & jump one. Floorboards keep small Trees from entering body orifices when unexpected off_roading occurs. Fiberglass explodes when impacted throwing off a sheet of ragged razor sharp fragments making a Bruce Lee knife attack look like Mr. Rogers loving his Sweater. On Interstate Rte. 84 one Summer, I stood with a Husband as his Ford Station Wagon burned with his Wife , Son and his Bride to be still in the vehicle. The Wagon had been clipped in the left rear drivers side by a delivery van misjudging his passing distance, not alot of visual surface damage. He'd gotten the car stopped - then it Exploded. The trunk area floor was compromised in the skirmish. NYS Troopers arrived & emptied an Extinguisher thru the driver side window: all still seated, present & accounted . :-) "..Bummer Dude..!." milnersXcoupe 1981 series50 Sent: Sunday, January 04, 2009 9:00 PM Subject: [Amc-list] Rebel Wagon coming home tomorrow! The floor pans are the same for all 67-78 big cars (except maybe the 74-up Matador coupe) so they shouldn't be too hard to find some.
