That makes sense. I did not think that the Classic was not offered in a ragtop, they had a real time trying to keep the Ambassador and Classic seperated. They wanted to have people consider the Ambassador as the flagship car and it was not really different enough to pull that off. That's why they stretched the wheelbase in 65, Having the basier Classic available in the droptop would have made keeping the split even harder! They relented in 65 to the Classic convert, I guess the differences where enough then to allow it. Finding a 64 Ambassador and dechroming it would be easiest way to acquire a 64 Classic convert. Of course, there's a LOT of holes to weld up to dechrome a 64 Ambassador 1/4! The 65 got the stretched wheelbase so that would give it a whole different vibe. You could use a 65-66 Classic as the base, but your talking extensive reskinning to convert to the older 64 exterior. I do think there seem to be more 65-66 Classic converts around than 64 Ambassador converts though! -- Mark Price Morgantown, WV 1969 AMC Rambler, 4.0L, EFI, T-5 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo, 4.7L, Quadratrac II " I realize that death is inevitable.
