If it's a points ignition, especially one with high-performance points, it could be simply worn out. It seems like not a lot of force, but the shaft upper bushing wears out, as it doesn't get much lube in those designs, and it's been what, 30+ years?! Points ignition energy severely rolls off starting at 4000, and if timing and dwell are jittering due to shaft wobble and play, that alone could do it. With the rotor off, there should be no manually detectable side to side play in the shaft. The mech. advance unit might wobble. A full 100%Q distributor teardown would be a good winter project. _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
