Joe, I have checked for full throttle position, that was a common thing with the Formula Ford race car. But it's been a long time since I checked, and just like the FF race car the Javelin has a cable throttle. Thanks for the idea about checking cam lift with a dial indicator. That should at least let me know if all the lobes are worn evenly, and if I can get the valve lift specs for the factory cam, I can establish if the cam is worn beyond reason. I have a sneaking suspicion that the distributor is more to blame than anything. Timing at higher revs is messed up, but it idles fine. Might even be a weak coil, weak spark, you know works great at idle etc. but falls on it's face with increased cylinder pressure, can't jump the gap. Maybe I should remove the vibration dampener and have the machine shop machine degrees of rotation marks placed from TDC to 60 degrees advanced. 60 should be enough shouldn't it? I can't recall what the maximum advance figures for most street and race engines might be, but certainly shouldn't be over 60 BTDC??? There is a upper Midwest mobile chassis dyno that travels around to shows, it's based in Watertown, SD. and was at the Car Craft Street Machine thing in St. Paul, MN this summer. I've seen it at other shows too. The college in Mankato has one for their engineering class too. The old Plymouth, GM truck dealership in town had a floor dyno, they let it fall into to disrepair and then sold it. Thanks for the ideas, and general support. Then you could make some adjustments to timing etc. and evaluate your problem using hard data instead of just seat of the pants (My car was faster when it was younger.) type information. > > This winter, since you'll be storing the car you could do some function checks like making sure the carb throttle plates open all the way, and perhaps even check the cam lift with a dial indicator. > > Joe Fulton > > --- On Tue, 11/11/08, Armand Eshleman <aje1@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > > > > _______________________________________________ > Amc-list mailing list > Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx > http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list > > > > -- > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG. > Version: 7.5.549 / Virus Database: 270.9.0/1778 - Release Date: 11/9/08 2:14 PM > > _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
