There is no graphite in 3-1 oil. It is just plain oil, no additives. Which is why it's good to use on the rings and cylinder walls to assemble an engine. It provides just a tad of lubrication for the first few moments when an engine fires. And it protects the cylinder walls from any surface rust that might develop while the engine block is awaiting those Aluminum heads your still saving your money for. (heh, heh, heh) Come to think of it I never have been bit by a "skeeter" while I was putting a block together,,, But HEY,,, that's just ME!
