Since it's an OHV you know that the pistons only go in one way. There should be a notch on the front of the piston. The rods and caps have a raised "dot" cast on the front. It's on the center of the rod, bottom of the cap (bottom when attached to the rod). Also, the oil squirt hole on the big end of the rod should be pointing to the cam side. The main caps are numbered, I think, and I think they have the raised dot on the front also. Just had the oil pan off one to pull a rod and piston for a guy, but buttoned it back up! ---------- Date: Thu, 11 Sep 2008 08:40:28 -0700 (PDT) From: Joe Fulton <piper_pa20@xxxxxxxxxxx> By the way, this engine has been apart before and may have had at least one of the main bearing halves replaced. And there were no cast-in arrows on the bearing halves showing the direction of installation, but between clues on the motor and pictures in the TSM I think I got it right. I used the Best brand rear main (rope) seal too and am hoping for a dry engine. Fingers crossed. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
