I actually got some engine assembly done list night. When I was putting the bottom end together I noticed that the main bearing tabs for the top and bottom bearing halves were on opposite sides of the engine. However the rod bearing tabs for the top and bottom of the rod ends are on the same side of the engine. Well, now that I think about it I could have that backwards, but anyway they are different, between the main bearings and the rod bearings. Just wondered if anyone had noticed this before and if there is an engineering reason for this. The rod bearing halves have been stamped with the sequencial (1 through 6) rod numbers so I know I reassembled them correctly. Stamped numbers were on the same side of the rods when I disasembled the engine. By the way, this engine has been apart before and may have had at least one of the main bearing halves replaced. And there were no cast-in arrows on the bearing halves showing the direction of installation, but between clues on the motor and pictures in the TSM I think I got it right. I used the Best brand rear main (rope) seal too and am hoping for a dry engine. Fingers crossed.
