In the owners manual you'll find that D2 (starting in second) was intended mainly for slippery conditions where the added torque of first gear would cause excessive spinning. Mainly for driving up north in snow and ice (taking off in). ======================= Date: Fri, 20 Jun 2008 15:35:24 +0000 From: Wrambler242@xxxxxxxxxxx L is a hold in low or first gear, except I believe if you go fast enough the governor will force a shift to second. 1 is the equivelant of drive in modern cars, shift is 1-2-3. 2 is a start in 2 shift to 3, usefull on level or downhill starts. [Equivilant toi D is just there to tell you that the normal drive position is either the D1 or D2 position. D1 should give you the best all around driveablility in hill areas. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ Amc-list mailing list Amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://splatter.wps.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/amc-list
